Another classic example of using the race card as a crutch for failure.

New York (CBS): Here we go again for Congressman Charles Rangel (D-Harlem, NY).

A major newspaper is calling for his resignation as chairman of the committee that writes tax laws.

And then there's this: The 79-year-old is under fire for comments he made about race and President Barack Obama.

First, Gov. David Paterson did it. Now, Rep. Rangel is doing it as an ethics probe heats up.

The "it" is playing the race card. Rangel said "bias" and "prejudice" are fueling opposition to health care reform.

Already under fire for a wide range of ethical questions, Rangel played the race card in a health care forum the other night, saying racial bias against President Obama is behind opposition to health care reform.

"Some Americans have not gotten over the fact that Obama is President of the United States. They go to sleep wondering, 'how did this happen?'"

Rangel also likened the fight to provide health care for the uninsured to the fight for civil rights.

"Why do black people have to bargain for what is theirs? Why do we have to wait for the right to vote? Why can't we get what God has given us? And that is the right to live as human beings and not negotiate with white southerners and not court the votes. Just do the right thing," Rangel said.

Rangel's incendiary remarks come as the congressman filed amended financial reports to the House Ethics Committee admitting that he forgot to report millions of dollars in assets and income.

Rangel is a corrupt politician and it's finally catching up with him. Not only is he trouble but...

Financial forgetfulness is apparently a disease that is spreading to his staff. Two top aides -- chief of staff Jim Capel and Rangel legal counsel George Dalley -- are among about a dozen staffers on Rangel's tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee that have filed amended financial reports recently. Capel did not file any financial disclosure statements for six years. Rangel's own forgetfulness prompted the political important Washington Post to demand Thursday that Rangel step down as chair of Ways and Means.

And his constituents are fed up with this guy.

Even some in Rangel's neighborhood think stepping aside might be a good idea.

"He's not the only one. They're all stealing. It's just that they want to get him out because he has too much influence. He's been there too long. Every last one of them is stealing," Harlem resident Jacob Israel said.

"He should step aside because who knows what else he's doing that we don't know about," resident Jerry Watson added.

That's right, he should step aside, go on trial and get some jail time.

Who the hell do these politicians think they are? They're of the opinion that they can do whatever they want, no questions asked. This is what happens when we send a guy up to Capitol Hill for years and years. They lose track of who they work for...it's all about them and the power they can wield.

Well, Congressman Rangel is about to pay the piper.

"Sorry Charlie"

  1. Great article! Rangel is such a corrupt politician who obviously doesn't give a crap about his constituents. The man needs to be removed from office immediately, and jailed for his thievery and deceptive tactics.

  2. Rangel is an example of a corrupt politician who was Peter-principled into office and remained there because he played the race card with his constituents and ran Harlem Tammany Hall Style. His excesses and crimes have now caught up with him and his only defense is "I'm black."

How special. I wonder what Pastor James D. Manning (Harlem minister) feels about Rangle?

  3. Cretins like Rangel will never acknowledge any improvement in race relations (much less saying that it's no longer a problem) because without it, they have no platform.

Ditto Jesse Jackson Sr. and Jr, Al Sharpton, Jeremiah Wright, Michelle Obama, Diane Watson and all the other race-baiters.

They are getting fat (literally, in some cases) off of focusing anger on a problem that has never been so slight.

Plus, it means that they never have to actually learn anything, when racism explains everything.

One down...and plenty to go. We have to weed them out one at a time.

    LL:
I'm sure Pastor Manning would have a few words to say about Charlie. Playing the race card is wearing thinner every day. People know the truth about why they don't like Obama's policies, and it's not because he's "half" black.

    Track-A-'Crat:
Jackson, Sharton, Wright have based their entire careers playing the race card. It's to their benefit to keep the "race fire" burning or they're out of a job. The only good thing coming out of the Obama presidency is that people are finally waking up to this nonsense...at least in regard to Obama. Hey, white people elected this guy...where was the racism that day?
