Have You Heard of the "Convention of States Project"?

I've been hearing mention about what is called the Convention of States (COS).  You may know something about it already, but today I finally went to their website to see what's been going on with their project.

One of the first things that pops up when you go to the website is an offer for a free download of the Convention of States Handbook, which I immediately downloaded for checking out when I have a little more time.  I also "Liked" their Facebook page and saw some familiar faces staring back at me, so I know several of you are many steps ahead of me regarding this issue.

But for those of you who haven't heard of it, it may give you some hope that there are people in America who are taking action against our runaway government and have decided to look to Article V of our Constitution for a solution.

Article V of the Constitution speaks about ways to amend the Constitution.

  • Congress can propose amendments to the Constitution at any time if 2/3 of both houses of Congress agree.
  • A Convention of States can propose amendments if 2/3 of states submit applications for such a convention. These applications must all deal with the same issue (i.e., limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government).
  • The Welcome Page explains the COS Project's purpose, goal and plan:
Purpose: The Convention of States (COS) Project was founded by Citizens for Self Governance for the purpose of stopping the runaway power of the federal government. We believe Washington, D.C., is broken and will not fix itself. The federal government is spending this country into the ground, seizing power from the states and taking liberty from the people. We have a solution that is as big as the problem.
Goal: The COS Project seeks to urge and empower state legislators to call a convention of states. The delegates at such a convention would have the power to propose amendments to the Constitution that would curb the abuses of the federal government. Article V of the Constitution gives them this power; the COS Project will give them an avenue through which they can use it.
    Plan: COS’s plan is twofold
    1.  We want to call a convention for a particular subject rather than a particular amendment. Instead of calling a convention for a balanced budget amendment (though we are entirely supportive of such an amendment), we want to call a convention for the following purpose: Limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.
    2.   We believe the grassroots is the key to calling a successful convention. We would like to build a political operation in a minimum of 40 states, getting 100 people to volunteer in at least 75% of the state legislative districts. Only through the support of the American people will this project have a chance to succeed.
I recommend going here for more clarification.

If you are so inclined, take a few minutes and check out the website.  Here's the link.  Pass the word around, too, because I'll bet many of your friends haven't heard about this project.

Our federal government is going crazy.  Out of control spending, power grabs and stealing our liberty and freedom right out from under us.  It's about time the people took matters into their hands, legally and with the guidance of our Constitution.  Who knows, maybe the breaking point is finally here and something constructive will be done to turn the ship around.

Is this project going to work?  I don't know, but I think it's worth finding out more about it in order to make a better, informed decision.

    Let's pray on it.

    1. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I, for one, had not heard about this.

    2. Very Interesting TCL. Let's see. I will tell you I"m not sending anyone any money. fwiw

    3. I've sent too much money to people/organizations that have disappointed me, so I feel the same way. jusJ thought I'd start a conversation and let people know this is happening. Merry Christmas!

      1. Yes, and thanks for posting this. I truly found it interesting. We'll see.

Have a wonderful Christmas and an even better New year. A great Christmas Song

    4. You're welcome. Let's see how it goes. Merry Christmas!

    5. This is what WE THE PEOPLE desperately need!

    6. If you choose to be lazy, if you want handouts, go right ahead. It's a free country. But when you start demanding the government steal my money to support your choice, then you are violating my liberties. Yes--we need to rid DC of ALL 'Progressives', RINO's & all their cohorts who are trying to incrementally dismantle & demolish every single principle & ideal on which our (formerly great) nation was premised. These people are nothing but a bunch of asshats. and liberal douche bags.
I think communist China, Russia, Cuba,,or North Korea have plenty of room for you. Go over there and see where your liberal ideas get you... Drink the cool-aide and wear the “I love Obama t-shirt”
I’m just hoping that America wakes up soon, but with Obama getting away with literally murder and disregard for our constitution.

    7. This is a trap. The states can call the convention, but Congress selects the delegates. And once a convention begins anything can be added or taken from the Constitution. Nullification is the more effective and safer option.

Respectful comments are always welcomed and appreciated. Trolls will not be tolerated.
