UPDATE 9/5: IT WORKED - UPDATE 9/4: BREAKING NEWS: President Obama Spotted Doing Rain Dance With Elizabeth Warren - "Empty Chairs" Showing Up at Obama's Acceptance Speech May Not Be the Biggest Problem

Bank of America Stadium
Charlotte, NC
Stadium filled to capacity with "empty chairs".

Today is the official start of the Democrat National Convention being held in Charlotte, NC.  President Obama will be giving his acceptance speech on Thursday, September 6th, at the Bank of America Stadium, oops...I meant "Panther Stadium" (don't want the Dems to get mad at me).

The DNC is planning to bus in students and black church members on Thursday to attend the speech, not to mention the free ticket giveaways.  Apparently, the Dems have been concerned about too many "empty chairs" showing up in the house that evening.  "Empty chairs" would not be good optics, especially when compared to the crowds President Obama had back in 2008.

Maybe the "empty chairs" showing up won't be the real problem.  Maybe the same old "empty words" from 2008 will show up, too.  That may be the bigger problem...

UPDATE 9/4:

Can President Obama fill the Bank of America Panther Stadium on Thursday?  Well, with any luck the weather may come to his rescue...either that or the President will wield his magic powers and ensure a resolution.  I'm guessing that whether the rain comes or not, it will be just too dangerous to attempt holding the speech in the football field.

According to the UK Daily Mail:

Footage of rows of empty seats at the stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers, as Obama speaks on Thursday night would be politically disastrous – an enduring image of the contrast between his campaign of ‘hope’ and ‘change’ in 2008 and his dour, negative struggle for re-election in 2012.  Now, it looks like the weather has come to the President's rescue.  As officials prepare to open the Democratic convention this afternoon, there are strong indications that the speech will be moved to Time Warner Cable Arena, which has a capacity of just over 20,000.  Speaking at a background briefing for the press, a Democratic official said that the speech would be given in the stadium ‘rain or shine’ before quickly adding a major caveat.
Breaking news...

President Obama has been spotted doing a rain dance with Elizabeth Warren.  Details to come...

It Worked!

  1. His words and policies are cancerous to America. Stop the cancer from spreading across America. Looking forward to voting for Mitt Romney in November.

  2. Madame,

This is a real inside baseball/ad hoc Chick-Fil-A moment in the offing for The Pantload. The Ju-Jitsu on this little soiree is if the seats are empty -- a la the half-empty Ohio State field house for the campaign "kick off" -- them this will be a book-end embarrassment. If the ticket giveaways/busing/emollients succeed in loading up the venue, their gymnastics will be worthy of dissection.

In addition to this -- as your links suggest -- the prospect of getting a few Paul Tards in there to make trouble would almost be as delish as having their crowd marinate in a thunderstorm-plentiful and a humid afternoon in NC just to wit until their vapid hero minces to the podium at 2200L EDT.

Kind of a cross between an OWS demonstration and a post-Katrina Chocolate City looter mob.

I was going to do something important that evening (clean out my septic tank and primer my Jeep) but maybe I will pop some popcorn and tune in.

By the way, madame, I love your new digs!

    1. I have no doubt that they will fill that stadium, even if they have to pay people to show up (it wouldn't be the first time). Rain may make a difference, but Obama can control the weather with his magic powers, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for the compliment on the latest blog look. It was time for a change.

    2. ..I know the feeling.

BY the way, doncha just love the controversy just raging over Eastwood's appearance? Like so many of his movies, we go and are entertained and then after the fact the quote ("Get off my lawn", "Make my day") or the iconic image (The Man with no Name, The Chair) lingers and eats into one's soul.

    3. Yep, the whole "Eastwood is suffering from dementia" claims by the Dems got turned around and backfired on them. Empty Chair Day was a success, and lots of fun, too.

  3. I'm sure there are plenty of unemployed in Charlotte that would take Obama campaign cash to put an ASS in every seat...

    1. No kidding. That's why I think those seats will be filled. The Dems have a lot riding on this turnout.

  4. Well, there aren't a lot of people who have money that are giving him any. If you're signed up for their vampire updates, they are always begging for money. And it's usually 5 bucks, so they know who are tuned in. That's pretty funny in itself.

    1. That's right. I don't get their "vampire updates", but I have heard $3 is another popular request. They are desperate this time around, so I will not put anything past them. Remember, ACORN is still around, only with different names. We can't take this win for granted.

    1. That seems to be standard practice whenever they want to pad the crowds. You'd think they'd be concerned with global warming and all the bus fumes?

  6. It should be fun watching the media, I mean the Palace Guard, spin it as a full and enthusiastic stadium. I'm sure the networks already have plenty of stock footage of the stadium filled to capacity during football games to use.

    1. Stock footage, huh...I'd say, "Don't give them any ideas", but they probably have already thought of that one.

    1. I don't think I'd be able to watch most of it. I do want to see Clinton and Obama, though. I must be a masochist.

  8. I really enjoyed the president's speech tonight. I thought it was very inspiring. I think the comparison between the president and his challenger are so stark that re-electing him is the obvious thing to do.
