Are Young People Frickin' Stupid?

Jonah Goldberg's take on young people. I'd also add that parenting and teachers have a lot to do with how young people think.

  1. Almost all of us are born with capacity for serious intelligence. Parents, Teachers, The Media, The popular culture. Definitely a negative influence with exceptions for everything of course. Good parents, schools, but the media and popular culture are still 99% negative.

My bosses wife is a teacher. Kids show up for first grade, can't write their name, don't know ABC, or 123. And that's the culture we're in partly because of women's lib, which I purely view as communist movement now.

Though I have no problem with any woman who wants a career, I do believe if they want children, someone has to commit to playing a major role in raising them. Which is not two parents working full time.

    1. I agree with you that parents need to commit to a major role in raising their children. The ideal situation is for Mom (or Dad) to be a stay-at-home parent. Unfortunately, sometimes that's impossible due to extenuating circumstances (circumstances other than a woman "wanting" a career). No matter what the circumstances, parents still have the responsibility of raising their children (even if they need some help) and making sure to instill morality and common sense ideas into their children's brains full of mush. They also are responsible for ensuring their kids are learning in school and not just being indoctrinated.

    2. I agree TCL, and I'm sure there are even some working parents who could do a good job, but doubtful the majority. Parents have to get involved. I saw something recently, where college grads were asked about hitler and none of them knew who he was. That was 60 years ago for God's sake and millions of people of most nationalities dead. Good Lord what's going on in these schools?

    3. I heard that Hitler report, too. Absolutely amazing.

  2. The brainwashing of youth by schools is sickening.
Parents who don't teach their kids correctly are a big problem too.
I hope we survive all this! CL.

    1. Parents must take an active role in monitoring what their children are learning in school. Parents also must teach their children about responsibility, self-control, independence and morality.

  3. It's in the "grander" scheme of things. Children are being taught to be good socialist in school by socials.

    1. Exactly. The Progressives have worked hard manipulating the education of American children. It's taken about 100 years, but they have succeeded.

  4. Jonah's point is a valid one: youth = stupidity. Only experience in life gives anyone enlightenment. Until they take a few knocks, and start paying taxes do they pull their heads out of....the sand.

And being stupid is OK, ...for a while. Where we are now failing as a society is that we allow youth to go on, and on, and on, while making sure the AC and heat are working well for Junior to live over the garage or in the basement of mom and dad's - forever. An idiot will remain an idiot in perpetuity until they are forced to wise up.

One solution would be to bring back the draft: nothing will wise a young man up quicker than a drill sergeant screaming at the top of his lungs within an inch of the slacking private's face for him to wise up, on the double....

    I'm here to tell you.

    1. I agree that experience helps to enlighten us, but not in every case. Isn't it said that liberalism is a mental disorder that about 20% of the country suffers from?

    2. No, not in every case does experience allow an idiot to rise above liberalism. Take Alan Dershowiz, the Harvard law professor and hard core lefty. He should be a conservative by now, but has been drinking the Kool-aid for so long now, an old dog just can't learn new tricks. But he has a flash of reason coming out of his mouth from time to time: just like him calling the DA in the Trayvon Martin case a crook.

That 20% of liberals do not remain liberal for life. Maybe 5% do, the other 15% are young and stupid. And have lots of young and stupid kids coming in behind them once they themselves start paying taxes and deciding that liberalism is bad for their lot in life.

  5. I agree with Fredd. An experience in boot camp for a short time would do wonders to the current generation.

  6. Of course they're stupid. Like we all were at that age, I'm sure. I was taught by former hippies, (I graduated in 1986), and I know they influenced me to be so venomously anti-Conservative in my formulative years. My parents didn't help, either.

Upon entering the US Army after graduation, having my face knocked into the dirt several times, and then getting a real paycheck, I began to see things quite differently. Also, having a confrontation with Christ Jesus and falling on my face before Him sealed the deal. I was now truly free, both spiritually and secularly.

I do not think the military will work for all these kids as it did for some of us, since the majority of these kids are sissies and effeminate pansies. If you don't believe me, ask these kids, especially the males, how many of them still live with Mommy. *facepalm*

I believe that liberalism, leftism, and your basic anti-American sentiments are spiritually genetic, and are passed on like sexually-transmitted diseases. It is only through divine intervention that a person's eyes are truly opened. Believe that.

    1. Like I said, poor parenting has a lot to do with what's wrong with young people in America. Maybe the Boomers are the problem?

    2. TCL,

So I take it you're not a fan of this "Attachment Parenting" nightmare in America? :)

I would go a step further and look at the epidemic of rogue fatherhood and this liberal-approved sub-culture of being a sperm donor and not actually taking responsibility for your (a man's) actions.

      Either or, we agree.

  7. Thank you soooooo much for T.N.B.C. being the featured blog... I too believe that the young people in this country are for the most part CLUELESS... The really sad part is that it's by design, the far left have spent decades dumbing down our children so they would follow without question... Critical thinking is a thing of the past, everything is emotion based and we all know that's not good... Class warfare wouldn't be effective without emotion being first and foremost what controls the situation... I think Jonah brings up an excellent point about raising the voting age... I think 45 or 50 would work...

    1. I agree with your statements. Also, it might help to raise the voting age to 45 or 50, but even that isn't guaranteed. Look at all of the senior idiots out there.
Hope you gain some more readers for the blog. I know how difficult it is to get followers or the exposure for people to find your blog. There are so many blogs to read...so little time.

  8. Goldberg said: "Nothing correlates more with ignorance and stupidity than youth."

Along those same lines, I remember a proverb that my mother used to quote:

"You can't put an old head on young shoulders."

Maybe I should amend that proverb: "You can't put a wise voting head on young shoulders."

    ------------

I am of the opinion that part of the foolishness of today's youth is directly attributable to exhausted mothers who are working outside the home. Because working mothers are under that kind of stress, they are not passing along to their children the knowledge and culture necessary to have those children grow up to be responsible and thinking adults. It really is true that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Too many children have been shuffled off to daycare. Who "rules the world" with such a daycare system?

Furthermore, schools now have more influence in the shaping of young people. Parents have been told "hands off" for education; it is a given that children now (and those in past decades too) are inordinately influenced by what happens in and after school -- both in the classroom and with the peer group.

  9. Government(public) schools today are indoctrination centers of progressive propaganda. Parents need to take more of an active role in their children's education. Many think it is merely a babysitting facility where the teachers do all the work. Parents are the main educators of their children. Or, are supposed to be.

    1. We can only hope that parents begin to realize that it's their responsibility to ensure that their kids are on the right track and not being indoctrinated by their schools. Now that this information is available, there's no excuse for sitting back and hoping for the best. Of course, in order for parents to be educated themselves about what's happening in the schools, they have to take the time to find out. That's the biggest problem...parents don't make the time.
