Charity Begins At Home...America

(AP Photo/The Tuscaloosa News, Dusty Compton)

As of Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 4:53 p.m.:
Gov. Robert Bentley said his the state (Alabama) had confirmed 194 total deaths. There were 33 deaths in Mississippi, 33 in Tennessee, 14 in Georgia, five in Virginia and one in Kentucky. Hundreds if not thousands of people were injured.
The loss of life is the greatest from an outbreak of U.S. tornadoes since April 1974, when 329 people were killed by a storm that swept across 13 Southern and Midwestern states.

The devastation is mind numbing.  Take a look at this slide show.

We can help.
Here are some suggestions:

  1. Our thoughts are with you in these troubled times, let's hope that your FEMA does a better job than at New Orleans.

That Charity Navigator looks interesting, so many of British "charities" have become state sponsored organs promoting Government social polices it is difficult to know who to contribute to without subsidising Govt.

    http://www.fakecharities.com/ helps.

  2. Hi banned:
So very sad. We were just in Birmingham, Alabama the week before last and even then they were having tornado warnings in that area of the country. As for FEMA, haven't heard a word about it yet during this disaster...hmmm???
Charity Navigator is very helpful to see how donations are used by different organizations. Nothing like giving to a charity and then finding out that 80% of it went to overhead. A few minutes research is worth the while.
