Obama To Unveil Offshore Drilling Plan? Don't Fall For It

Could it be true?  Obama is thinking about drilling offshore for oil & gas?

Government set to unveil offshore drilling plan

(Reuters) - The Obama administration is expected to announce by Wednesday its updated plan for oil and natural gas drilling in U.S. waters, including whether to allow exploration for the first time along the U.S. East Coast.

Don't fall for it.  In my opinion, it's a ploy to get Republicans on-board with his Cap & Tax agenda.  Obama needs some Republicans to go along with this gigantic tax monstrosity and he's going to dangle the off-shore drilling carrot out in front of them...just another bribe.

But Obama, who wants Congress to move a stalled climate change bill, has sought to reach out to Republicans by signaling he is open to allowing offshore drilling, providing coastlines are protected.

Of course, once he gets his Cap & Tax Bill passed through Congress, the drilling will never take place.  The Environmentalists are his base, and he'll need them in 2012.

The Republicans better not fall for this or their goose is cooked...not to mention ours.

  1. So true. I remember he was asked about offshore drilling once during the campaign and he went into this long drawn out "uh, it's on the table-uh uh, we might drill--uh uh" response. He would never say yes or no. Then and there I knew he'd never do it.

  2. Your right it is a trap. It has always been about control. If they can not control us with global warming fears they will try putting some sugar in the poison.

  3. I said this over at The Monster earlier: Can you say "union jobs"?

Even if he did "allow" drilling, there are so many bureaucratic hoops to jump through that it probably would take years for it to become a reality. Same for nuclear power plants.

I fear that the RINOs like Lindsay Graham will work with him when the sugar is offered. I sure hope not.

  6. Hi Snarky:
The unions are running the show. Obama is indebted to them and need them to win again in 2012.
The GOP better fight against Cap & Tax with everything they have. The sad part is that Obama has the EPA to do his dirty work, even if Congress doesn't go along.

  7. I think you're right, this is a PLOY. Just this morning, he said we only have 2% of the world's oil reserve, as if to say "So don't think anything big's going to happen like your oil prices going down just cuz I say we're going to be drilling.."
Anyway, why the coasts? WHY NOT ALASKA, which I just read he's CLOSED DOWN to drilling...if I can find whose blog that was, I'll come back and link it for you.

  8. i think it has more to do with trying to divert our attention away from the health care BS they just forced down our throats.

"look, i'm not a bad guy i want the same things you do.."

like trestin says, it is a trap, no matter the size, scope or purpose.

  9. Conservative Lady, You're probably right about this but there's a slim chance he may be doing this for another even more cynical reason: he's seen those terrible poll numbers concerning his popularity and the chances the Congress will swing big for the GOP in 2010 so he plans to lob a couple of rockets at Iran to get public support. If he does this, and I admit it's pretty far out there, he'll need some oil in the pipeline.

  10. This is an obvious political ploy. You hit the nail on the head. The Republican's better stay away from this as well. Let the Dems hang every bit of legislation around their neck!

I heard that he is closing off the Alaska areas where drilling was ready to begin. Instead he will allow "exploration" in areas off of the coast in a few states. The whole thing is a farce and no drilling will take place. The EPA will make sure of that.
I heard those old sound bites, too. He is a liar and will say whatever he needs to say at the time.

I've heard a lot of theories about the reason Obama is doing this, and they all make sense. I don't put anything past him and it certainly would be to his benefit if he could get some Republicans on his side. The problem is that there are RINOs who will go for this, like Lindsay Graham, who is working with him already.

Obama knows 2010 is going to be a tough election for the Dems and he probably thinks talking oil "exploration" is going to turn some GOPers to his side, but hopefully they will see through this BS.

I'm listening to Hannity's show right now and it sounds like some of the GOP may be falling for it. Why can we see through Obama's BS and our elected officials can't?

  17. This is worse than lip service. It's a joke

  18. I think he's throwing a bone to he GOP, and maybe to convince some independents that he's not so bad after all.

  19. Obama's words on drilling will not produce a single molecule of new oil, much less a single drop.

Nobody believes him on anything anymore. Not even his base, and that's saying something.

Yep, and I hope the joke's not on us.

I'm sure that's part of this because of how the GOP has been for drilling all along. Unfortunately, Obama is not for drilling. His words about drilling are immortalized on videos galore from the election. The whole thing is just for show. No oil or gas will come from this.

  22. Fredd:
You're right. There are videos with him talking about drilling and he is definitely against it. "Exploration" does not mean "drilling" and Obama's environmental agenda has no room for drilling. It's all a LIE.
I hope the GOP in Congress can see through this. The RINOs always scare me. Can you say "Lindsey Graham"?????
