With the election of Barack Obama came the decision for the U.S. to join the UN Human Rights Council. The Unites States is now going to submit it's "first ever" report on it's "human rights violations" and lay them out before the council in their "universal periodic review (UPR)". The report will be submitted in the fall. Here are the member countries of the UNHRC.
According to the UN website it is "... a three step process – reviewing the human rights “situation” of member nations, asking for “voluntary pledges” to follow recommendations made by the Human Rights Council, and following up to see if those recommendations have been followed."
Do you think America should be following recommendations to improve our "human rights situation" made by countries like China?

By Penny Starr
(CNSNews.com) – Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday that the State Department is soliciting comments from citizens, advocacy groups and other non-governmental organizations on the human rights record of the United States.

P.S. I would guess that the rights of unborn babies being violated will not be part of the report.
At least you don't have to worry about being blamed for slavery, that was all Englands fault according to our apology monkey Prime Minister Gordon Brown; that and the Irish potato famine which was somehow our fault too.
ReplyDeleteI like the aborted babies tie in :) Regarding all this junk though, as soon as the grownups get back in power we sure have a lot of work to do. These pigs have made a mess of the country.

ReplyDeleteI don't know about the potato famine, but I know that slavery thing is going to be (at least) a "shared" fault.
Come to think of it, everything here in the US is usually blamed on President Bush, so maybe he'll get the blame for the potato famine, even though he wasn't even born yet.
Hi Candle:
ReplyDeleteI sure hope the "grownups" can do the job.
TCL, great minds think alike. I was TOTALLY thinking about unborn babies as I read the story.
ReplyDeleteWhat I was going to say was are unborn babies not human? Maybe they are dolphin? Oh, wait. If babies were dolphin, then animal rights activists would get all up in arms. I mean, if people snuck in and started aborting dolphin babies in the womb there would be a huge outcry.
Opie:
ReplyDeleteThe government already takes the "rights" of animals/fish before human rights. Just ask the California farmers about the smelt fish.
On the subject of Animal Rights, the Dutch are considering allowing State paid legal representation for the victim in in animal abuse cases.
ReplyDeleteTax money paying for lawyers for animals...that sounds about right.
