Chris Matthews and His Empty Head

This video shows Chris Matthews speaking with the authors of the new book "Game Change".  This book tells stories about the 2008 presidential election.  Of course, the only stories Chris Matthews was really interested in were the ones about Sarah Palin.  Listen to his tirade and then answer this question..."Who really has the empty head?".

Matthews: Neo-Cons Took Cruise to Alaska to Find Empty Headed Palin

Provoked by charges made in Game Change that Sarah Palin had to be tutored in basic foreign policy facts, Chris Matthews, on Tuesday's Hardball, took shot after shot at the former vice presidential candidate's intelligence as he wondered, "Is it possible that her head was really that empty?...Has she ever taken an SAT afternoon exam?" and mocked "Don't put her on Jeopardy!"
Matthews invited on Game Change co-authors John Heilemann and Mark Halperin to chat about various nuggets from the book but it was their stories about Palin that got the MSNBC host revved up, as he painted an absurd picture of neo-cons taking a "cruise" to Alaska where they found Palin "standing at the docks with an empty head saying, 'I'm willing to say what you want me to say.'" 1. If the allegations in "Game Change" are true, Chris Matthews is right about Sarah Palin. I watch "Hardball" regularly and Chris has shown just as much interest in the stories in "Game Change" surrounding Harry Reid, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, etc. as he has in the ones about Sarah Palin.

I think Chris was fired up during this segment because he's amazed that McCain could pick someone as unqualified as Sarah Palin to be his running mate.

Before you ever heard of her, she was a governor with an approval rating of close to 80%. She had been a two time mayor, that increased city income while lowering taxes. She took on people in her own party who were corrupt and won. She did all of this by the time she was in her mid 40's with a husband and five kids. She actually had executive experience. The only person on the ticket last year who did.

You don't like her politics, that is fine. But simply not agreeing with her politics doesn't make her stupid. I don't think the President is stupid, just completely misguided in his belief system.

  3. TCL: Happy New Year to you as well.

JACG: You are making the same mistake that many other Palin supporters commit. You are assuming that my opposition to Sarah Palin is based on her politics. Ever since Sarah Palin became a household name, she has demonstrated numerous times to me and many others (including conservatives/Republicans) that she is not VP or POTUS material.

Obviously, I usually disagree with conservatives such as Newt Gingrich, Laura Ingraham, and Joe Scarborough, but I'm not going to question their intelligence. The former governor of Alaska/current Fox News contributor is another story.

Since you didn't go into why you think she is stupid, you may not fall into this category.

About a week ago, I was talking to some people that I barely know about my blog. They are Obama supporters who think that Palin is stupid. I asked them why. Almost of all the things that they came up with made no sense. Some of the examples that they gave were actually things that Tina Fey said. They had no idea of what Sarah actually accomplished while in public office. Until she put into the limelight, she was a productive mayor and governor. It isn't easy to have 80% approval rating.

From pretty much day one, Palin was given a hard time and made into a cartoon character. Her main sin is that she is a conservative woman. Hillary wasn't treated much better once she announced for President.

For the record, I don't want Sarah to run in 12. She has been too badly damaged by the likes of MSNBC and she will hurt the chances of getting rid of Obamanation.

As far the elitist on the right, one of thier problems with her is that they didn't know her and she isn't part of the in crowd inside the beltway.

  5. Chris Matthews only cares about one thing: Chris Matthews. I had the misfortune of briefly running into him at a restaurant in DC about 10 year ago, when my wife and I were living in northern VA. I was trying to get up to the crowded bar and order some drinks, when I noticed that Chris Matthews was standing right next to me - and staring at me! And I mean it was a stare from hell, he would not let my eyes go. At first I thought that was weird, and then after a few moments I recognized who it was. Once he saw that flicker of recognition in my eyes, he turned away to resume trying to get the barkeep's attention, seemingly happy with the notion that I recognized him.

He never glanced again in our direction, even though we were sitting right next to the table he and his wife Kathleen (a local DC newscaster) were sitting.

Moral of the story: yes, I know that this brief little nothing encounter may not be the window into Matthew's soul that I say it is, my gut still says Chris Matthews is a narcisist, just like his hero that gives him the leg shivers.

I think Gov. Palin did very well on Glenn Beck's show. Maybe the job with Fox will help to change people's minds about her if they have a negative image from the MSM. Only time will tell. Personally, I don't think she's stupid. A stupid woman would not have been able to accomplish all she did in Alaska. And her leaving the governorship was understandable after you hear the problems she was encountering with all of the law suits being filed against her. The media will not be honest about it.

Sounds like Mr. Matthews is full of himself.

  8. JACG: No, I didn't rely on Tina Fey's impersonation of Sarah Palin to form my opinion. :-) The impersonation was spot on though.

I saw the Charlie Gibson, Katie Couric, and Bill O'Reilly interviews and in each one of them, Sarah showed a lack of knowledge about things a VP candidate should know. She even swings and misses on questions that are softballs to most other political figures. I am glad that it was on Glenn Beck's show that she gave the "all of them" answer when he asked her to name her favorite founding father (when pressed to answer, she finally did say GW was her fave). If Chris Matthews or another member of the falsely titled "state controlled media" had said "bull crap" as did Beck, the Palin supporters would have been up in arms.

I'm not sold on the pervasive feeling that Palin is stupid. I do think that she shows a shocking lack of knowledge/curiosity about the world. I would think that would be of concern to even her most ardent supporters.
