UPDATE 1/6: Are You Willing To Share The Blame?

I have refrained from publicly supporting any one GOP candidate for president and I am still not going to take the plunge yet.  There are those who are not my favorites and others who I like.

Michele Bachmann was one I believe has conservative values I could support, but today she has decided to drop out.  Good call for her because of the poor results she had in Iowa and a lack of funding that made it prohibitive for her to continue in the race.  I like Rick Santorum, too.  I believe he has a love of America and strong core values.  His economic policies sound good and he is knowledgeable and strong on foreign policy.  I was happy to see him do so well in the Iowa caucuses.

We all know that conservatives are looking for an "anti-Romney" candidate.  Now that Bachmann is out, Perry is praying on it (although an earlier Tweet today gives us reason to believe he's still in the race), Gingrich has been beaten to a pulp by negative ads and has loads of baggage, Huntsman is too moderate to be considered an anti-Romney, and Paul may have a good handle on the economy but his foreign policy is weak (and scary), we are focusing on Rick Santorum.  I'm not saying any of the other candidates can't rise to the top, but for right now Santorum is the next in line for scrutiny.

Today begins the onslaught of negative articles and ads against Rick Santorum.  Did you read that he's a "big government conservative"?  Or that he's an anti-abortion statist?  Or that he's a right-wing nut?  Or that he's a big earmark supporter?  Or that he supported Arlen Specter?  Well get ready, because the Left and the establishment-Right are revving up to discredit him.  They both want Romney to be the GOP nominee.  Did you hear that John McCain just endorsed Romney?  (That's enough to turn me off...and may be the kiss of death for Romney.)

It's obvious that there is NO PERFECT GOP presidential candidate.

Don't think everything will be OK as long as the GOP wins control of both houses of Congress in 2012.  It is essential that the GOP win back the Senate and keep the House, but even that will not be enough if Barack Obama is re-elected.  Beside his veto power, we already know he thinks bypassing Congress is the easiest way to ensure his agenda is enforced.  He just did it again today.  And if the Supreme Court does not rule against ObamaCare, there will be no chance to repeal it EVER if Obama wins.  It will be well on it's way to full enactment.

I believe we must vet the GOP presidential candidates based on TRUTH and vote for our best choice in the primaries.  Hopefully, we will choose the most conservative candidate who can WIN and that our choice will be a stark contrast to Obama.  But at some point there will be one man standing, and if we don't put our full support behind that one person, Barack Obama will be elected again and America's "fundamental change" (to socialism/Marxism) will be complete with no turning back.  The Progressives will have ensured their control of America into the future by making the vast majority of Americans dependent on big government more than ever before in history.

In the November general election, each of us must decide if we will be able to pull the GOP lever for someone who may not be our first choice.  If you can't vote for the GOP candidate on principle and you decide to "make a statement" by either writing in a name, voting third party or sitting at home and refusing to vote, then you must be ready to share in the blame if Barack Obama wins.  The real "statement" you will have made is that you are complicit in the downfall of our Republic.  Obama's re-election will seal the fate of America and ensure it's continued slide down into the abyss.  If that happens, don't come here and complain...you'll be talking to the hand.

UPDATE  1/6/12:

One more thought on this...

Over the years Americans have been pretty much apathetic. We let our country get to this point because things were happening under the radar. Our attention span was lacking.
Over the past several years, Americans are waking up to the fact that we are in BIG trouble. With the grace of God, we can only hope that this re-awakening will reflect in our choice of a president in 2012. The best 'not-Obama' choice.
If we elect a Republican for president, even if it's Romney, the people are paying much more attention to what the government is doing. If we do our job, elect good people for the Senate & House, and we continue to stay informed about what our politicians are doing, we have the responsibility to hold them to their promises, keep their feet to the fire, or kick them out in the next election. We can't sit back and think everything is OK if the Republicans get elected. But we do have a better chance of keeping a Republican president and Congress on the right track if we STAY ENGAGED and make our voices HEARD. That's our job from now on.

  1. I will never vote for Obama.

Nor nullify my vote against him.

I hope everyone else thinks the same way as we do.

  3. I'm with Opie.

A really great speech by Santorum. I see many Paul supporters believing Paul will pick up many supporters. I think he's got all he's going to get and it is between Romney and Santorum. Santorum admits to his mistakes and trusts in God. I'm good with that.

  4. So much for my 'lead pipe cinch' on the nomination for Michele Bachmann.

I guess water is thicker than blood in Iowa.

And I want to know why these hayseed, bumpkin rubes in Iowa are limiting MY choices in the primary anyway. I live in neighboring Illinois, and these rubes just tossed Michele into the trash bin, and she will not be appearing on MY ballot in Illinois, thanks to these Iowan hayseeds.

And this treatment of a true conservative, from the likes of a bunch of hicks who couldn't make it day to day without massive government subsidies for their corn and ethanol.

  5. At Robbing America we fully support your view that "If you can't vote for the GOP candidate on principle and you decide to "make a statement" by either writing in a name, voting third party or sitting at home and refusing to vote,............ you are complicit in the downfall of our Republic."

It will be interesting to see if Santorum can hold up to actually become the "anti-Romney". We'll know after a few more primaries. As for Ron Paul...his followers are certainly dedicated to him, but are a minority. I just hope he doesn't decide to go third party.

I'm sorry about Michele Bachmann, too. I believe she is a true conservative and would have worked hard as our president to get America back on track. It's unfortunate that she won't be on anyone's primary ballet in 2012. I respect her decision to step aside...things just didn't look good and I'm sure she wouldn't want to go on knowing in her heart that it wasn't her time.

I see people online say they can't vote for this one or that one. I hope they are talking about the primary election. I would then hope they choose the person they think is best qualified. But to hold that stance in a general election as important as this, would be a very huge mistake. I hope people think long and hard before their stubbornness causes them great regret in the future.

  9. Of course McRINO endorsed RomRINO. They both love their big government solutions to our problems. I hope that is the kiss of death to the Romney campaign.

A BIG, WET, SLOPPY KISS OF DEATH to his campaign.

  11. I have made a pledge to myself that I will vote for whoever ends up being the GOP nominee. The RINO's need to be stomped IMO. Of course the McRINO endorsed the other RINO. Hopefully, that will be the kiss of death for him.

I have a feeling a lot of us will have to hold our noses again this time in order to vote for president.

  13. Hmm, no, our Republic has fallen. It just doesn't seem to know it. Fifty years of leftism from both parties, progressivism, has pretty much done the trick. Not voting for a bad president, even if he happens to have an "R" after his name means nothing.

I will have a perfectly clean conscience about the matter if Americans choose Romney, I find I have no choice but to not vote for him (and I don't have a choice), and Zero wins again. Period. Choose your candidate wisely, for I am nowhere close to being alone. I won't vote for another Bush even, senior or junior. You know where that leaves Romney, Gingrich, and Huntsmen. The rest, save Michele, are viable.

I won't whine, either. As I see it, Zero will just crash everything to the point we either cave or revolt. That may happen with or without him. As I see it, the thing has to hit a reset, it will hurt, but that is what we get for living on borrowed money in impossible sums, privately, business wise, and governmentally.

I like your notion, I just can't abide it. If a candidate isn't clearly, positively, and perpetually pro-life, pro-American (in the civil way), small government, and pro-free enterprise, I can't vote for him (Romney is heavily into crony capitalism, another form of socialism). Bah!

  14. I too will hold my nose and pull the handle for Romney, but at least this time around it will only take my thumb and forefinger to allay the stench: in 2008, voting for McCain I had to don a gas mask.....

    ReplyDelete
  15. Today, McCain endorsed Romney -- and mistakenly called him "Obama"!

    Talk about a Freudian slip!

We're going to be stuck with Romney as the GOP candidate.

Some say that Romney can beat BHO. I don't think so, however.

  16. Doom:
I am not so naive to think that there is no such a thing as Republican Progressives who have contributed to America's sad state. Both parties are responsible for America's fall. I also believe there are Republican Progressives running for president and I hope one of them isn't the final choice.
It is our responsibility to choose the best, most conservative person we can in the primaries and hope that person goes on to the general. We must also fight for the Senate and the House and choose the best conservative candidates possible.
But in the end, I think 4 more years of Obama will be much, much worse for our country's future than 4 years of one of any of the Republican candidates. Obama is doing whatever he wants to do now (and getting away with it for the most part) while he is facing an election in November. Imagine what he will do when he is a lame duck president. I am willing to take a chance with any of the Republican candidates over Obama and I am hoping the most conservative is the final choice. Our Republic has been weakened over the years, but we are still the best country in the world. We are exceptional and I believe the Republicans still believe we are exceptional, too. Obama never believed it in his life and never will.
Romney is NOT my choice. If he is elected president, I pray he will be guided by a conservative Senate and House. And that the American people will hold ALL of their feet to the fire.
Hopefully, when the FL primary arrives I will have a better choice and believe me I will make the most conservative choice I can at the time. But in the end, I will vote against Obama no matter what. That is where my conscience is leading me. You have to do what your conscience leads you to do.

Let's do our best to make sure it's not Romney. But if it is, I too with get the clothespin out and head to the polls.
Thank goodness Palin was on the ticket in 2008. She made it much easier for me to pull the lever that year.

    ReplyDelete
  18. AOW:
I didn't hear about McCain calling Romney "Obama". That's hysterical.
I don't know if Romney can beat Obama or not. Nobody does. That's the point. We don't know. Obama can pull a rabbit out of his hat at any time. That's why he has done his best over the past couple of years to make as many Americans dependent on the government as possible. Not to mention the voter fraud that goes on. But I keep reminding myself that a lot of the people who voted for him in 2008, have realized they made a mistake. Maybe they wanted to make a "historical choice" or they believed his Hopey-Changey BS. Now they see he wasn't all he was made out to be.

We don't even know if Romney is really going to be the final GOP nominee. That's what the media keeps telling us, but it's up to us whether or not we listen to the media and decide they're right. I heard someone make a good point on Rush's show today. Remember how McCain was the "media darling" until he became the nominee? Then they went against him. The same thing is going to happen to Romney.

All I can say is that we have to do our best to be energized and motivated to beat Obama. Don't listen to the media and decide for ourselves who the best person is. What else can we do?

  20. I'll just say I find it disturbing that the number 1 guy can't rise above 25% support...

Also, since there will be no Dem primary, since they know who is running, why wouldn't all the dems in New Hampsha go change their affiliation to repub (if they even need to) and go screw up the repub primary with their subversive voting.

    Very disturbing I tell ya.

Yeah, my gal Michele Bachmann bit the dust first, that is always my lot in life.

The one that will do the country the most good always finishes last.

And we get the McCains, Bushes, Doles, Gerry Fords and Mitt Romney's to stand up for us, and they have no intention of standing up for us, but rather want to compromise with Beelzebub.

  23. Fredd, the game is fixed. As much as we'd like to believe otherwise.

When big money is involved, the fix is in.
