UPDATE 7/9/11 - Operation Fast and Furious": Another Bad Decision By Holder?

 Photo via The Daily Caller
Isn't it about time this guy gets a pink slip?

"...The subpoenaed documents could show who made the fateful decisions to allow assault weapons and military-grade sniper rifles to be “walked” into Mexico.
Issa says given the structure of the Justice Department, the decisions were likely made by top-ranking officials, potentially even Attorney General Eric Holder himself."

UPDATE 7/9/11:
"Operation Fast and Furious" is being investigated now and I've found a great post that covers many of the videos as it unfolds.  Check it out at Pronk Palisades BlogRead more...

At the time, I thought it sounded like a pretty serious story that was going to get blown off along with all of the others (mentioned in the original post) that were centered around Attorney General Eric Holder.  But it looks like this story isn't going away.   Two Americans Border Control Agents lost their lives because of this debacle.  (Correction:  One agent was killed, Agent Brian Terry.)
According to The Daily Caller:

Issa, Grassley name 12 senior Justice officials in Fast and Furious letter

House oversight committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican, and Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican, ripped Attorney General Eric Holder again in another Monday letter.
The top Republicans investigating the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Operation Fast and Furious also blasted Holder for allegations that he allowed his Justice Department to skew potential witnesses by prepping them with access to background information.
In this new letter, Issa and Grassley name 12 senior Justice Department political officials they believe may have been involved in the decision which allowed guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. They asked Holder to provide all records relating to communications between those 12 individuals regarding Operation Fast and Furious.
“As our investigation into Operation Fast and Furious has progressed, we have learned that senior officials at the Department of Justice (DOJ), including Senate-confirmed political appointees, were unquestionably aware of the implementation of this reckless program,” Grassley and Issa wrote to Holder. “Therefore it is necessary to review communications between and among these senior officials.”
Obama administration officials Issa and Grassley named in their letter were:
–Former Deputy Attorney General David Ogden
–Deputy Attorney General James Cole
–Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer
–Deputy Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Blanco
–Deputy Assistant Attorney General Jason Weinstein
–Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Keeney
–Associate Deputy Attorney General Matt Axelrod
–Former Associate Deputy Attorney General Ed Siskel
–Gary Grindler in the Office of the Attorney General
–Brad Smith, in the office of the Deputy Attorney General
–Kevin Carwile, section chief of the Capital Case Unit
–Joseph Cooley, in the Criminal Fraud Section
(I think Eric Holder's name should be at the TOP of the list!)

Could Operation Fast and Furious / Project Gun Runner be vehicles set up by the Obama Administration to chip away at the Second Amendment?  It seems like a logical question, especially after reading this...

The Blaze reports:
Today the administration’s plans are beginning to come into effect. Through an Executive Order, the Obama administration is implementing new restrictions on the sale of certain weapons in border states, and increasing the penalties for violating certain firearms laws.
Fox News is reporting on the purpose of the gun control executive orders:
“In an effort to stem the illicit flow of weapons into Mexico, the Justice Department announced Monday that all gun shops in four Southwest border states will be required to alert the federal government to frequent buyers of high-powered rifles.
Under the new policy, federal firearms licensees in Texas, California, Arizona and New Mexico must report purchases of two or more of some types of rifles by the same person in a five-day span. The requirement applies to purchases of semi-automatic rifles that have detachable magazines and a caliber of greater than .22.
ATF estimates it will generate 18,000 reports a year. ATF will retain the information and if no investigative leads have been realized after two years, it will be purged.”
The Daily Beast seems to have the inside track on more Executive Orders, however, claiming recent conversations with administration officials. TDB says the upcoming Executive Orders will have more impact than what Fox outlines above, including:
“A national electronic system designed to make background checks for handgun buyers simpler and faster, leaving an electronic paper trail. [And] Tougher sentencing guidelines for straw buyers that Holder’s department pushed through procedural hoops at the U.S. Sentencing Commission earlier this year.” Read more...

Obama doesn't have to go through Congress.  Our Dictator-in-Chief does anything he pleases through Executive Order.  Between the Czars and the Executive Orders, why do we need Congress?

  1. I've come to the conclusion that the whole thing was Cloward-Piven for the Second Amendment.

  3. Great Post!
I believe that the AG-Eric Holder knew about the entire operation, briefed the president, and will go down in resignation to protect the president's "one hope in hell" for 2012. However, Congressman Issa will NOT back down! He is one thing I like about California...OK, San Diego too.

  4. Hi Michael:
I believe Holder knew about it, too. I hope you're right about Holder going down in resignation, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.
Issa has been this and I hope he gets to the bottom of this.
    I agree...San Diego is great.

  5. Absolutely NONE of this will phase most Obama supporters. It WILL, hopefully, have some effect on the mindless "undecided" folks who often determine elections.

The Obama zombies are a lost cause. This is a big scandal that needs to be kept in the forefront of the news. With any justice, the real people responsible for it will be punished...not some scapegoat.

  7. Maybe it's just me, but this seems ten times worse than Watergate.

  8. Hi Trestin:
That's because it is. People are being killed. Unfortunately, the LSM is on Obama's side, so the coverage of this is lame.

  9. "Maybe it's just me, but this seems ten times worse than Watergate."

And yet the MSM continues to cover up for this President and his administration. This is journalistic malpractice. Well, morality and doing the right thing is way down low on the totem pole to libs, so should we really be surprised that progressives chose politics over covering a huge scandal?

  10. Trestin, I think this guy does stuff that's 10 times worse then watergate on a weekly basis at least.

I sure hope this buffon is put down. Then who is going to replace him? Remember judge Sonya. I thought - Well, at least he can't do any worse then this, and along comes elana kagan. Have mercy.

  13. This wonderful post was found on the internet this morning. I thought it was so good, I'd like to share it with you.

The most arrogant and narcissistic person to ever infest the Oval Office has exhibited his unyielding arrogance once again. An American President can *storm* out of a meeting with a foreign power, an entity that is considered to be an enemy. He can abruptly end a negotiation if he chooses, but to *storm* out of budget negotiations with the GOP literally SMACKS of Chicago politics, Union strong-arm tactics and the actions we see from SEIU thugs and Obama supporters.

When Barack Hussein Obama made his presumed to be *hollow* threat against Social Security and Military benefits checks earlier this week, he did place his already shaky presidency in an even more precarious position; Obama, in his attempt to frighten retirees and disabled persons by suggesting that these individuals may not get a check for the month of August, actually did more harm to his presidency than ALL Conservative bloggers combined could have done.

You see, something that Obama didn’t take into consideration is this; many of those that he threatened are Democrats. Chicago Union tactics just backfired on Barack Hussein Obama. Ouch!
