Obama Administration Blocking 103 Gulf Drilling Permits (by Robert Bluey)

As oil prices continue to climb, a backlog of more than 100 offshore drilling plans for the Gulf of Mexico are awaiting approval from the Obama administration, according to federal data.
The federal government has not approved a single new exploratory drilling plan in the Gulf of Mexico since lifting its deepwater drilling moratorium on Oct. 12. There are currently 103 plans awaiting review by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement.

The information reveals that the Obama administrationnot the oil industry is the culprit for the slowdown of drilling activity in the Gulf. The Gulf of Mexico accounts for more than 25 percent of domestic oil production.

Could the lifting of the ban been for political reasons? Sure looks like it when you see the ban lifted early (right before the November elections), and then no permits issued since. Hmmmm....

I just hope that in 2012 Americans remember who is to blame for the high gas prices and for the decapitation of our domestic oil production which results in our continued dependence on foreign energy sources.  Not to mention the American jobs that have been lost.

This story gave me the opening to show you what I got at the Daytona 500 race last Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011.

Here's a photo of the flag that was taped to the back of my seat at the Daytona 500. Everyone in the stands received one and we were supposed to wave it at the beginning of the race. Needless to say, I did not oblige. I just heard Glenn Beck state on his radio show that he was at the race last Sunday, found out that NASCAR started to run the cars on ethanol this year and that they have lost 12% in fuel mileage.

According to the Environmental Working Group site:
But the only thing green in this deal is the money changing hands.
Last month (Sept. 17), The Associated Press reported that NASCAR’s corporate sponsorships have been drying up due to the sour economy. This  “partnership” is really about NASCAR teaming up with ethanol for financial reasons, not environmental concerns. When approached in 2007 about using ethanol — before the financial crisis — The Charlotte Observer reported that NASCAR officials were “lukewarm” to the idea:
A NASCAR spokesman saying because ethanol is not as efficient as gasoline, larger fuel tanks or more frequent pit stops for refueling would be necessary, and that would constitute a safety concern.

  1. It's down right stupid and dangerous to put food in a gas tank. People are hungry around the would. Ethanol does nothing but keep corn prices high around the world.

  2. Obama's decisions seem to be based on either selfish or political motives. The man is such a narcissist. I wouldn't have waved the ethanol flag either. If Nascar is spending more money on fuel just to gain more sponsors or financial support than that is their own fault.

America is being blamed for the high cost of food around the world. We are our own worst enemy.

I wasn't very happy to hear about NASCAR and ethanol. I was voicing my displeasure very loudly to our friends at the track when I saw those little flags...maybe that's why none of them waved the flags either, ha, ha.

  5. Blocking oil drilling right now is insane. I'd go to far as to say that blocking domestic drilling is an act of treason. Apparently, BHO would rather line the pockets of oil sheikhs than see that Americans have jobs and affordable petroleum (gasoline and heating oil).

    Crisis? Cloward-Piven

Their plan is in the works.

  8. It is so wrong to leave us at the mercy of the middle east on our energy policy. It is possible to drill without hurting wildlife. We should do so immediately.
