Five weeks ago Escambia County officials requested permission from the Mobile Unified Command Center to use a sand skimmer, a device pulled behind a tractor that removes oil and tar from the top three feet of sand, to help clean up Pensacola’s beaches. County officials still haven’t heard anything back. Santa Rosa Island Authority Buck Lee told The Daily Caller why: “Escambia County sends a request to the Mobile, Ala., Unified Command Center. Then, it’s reviewed by BP, the federal government, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Coast Guard. If they don’t like it, they don’t tell us anything.”
Keeping local governments in the dark is just one reason why the frustration of residents in the Gulf is so palpable. State and local governments know their geography, people, economic impacts and needs far better than the federal government does. Contrary to popular belief, the federal government has actually been playing a bigger and bigger role in running natural disaster responses. And as Heritage fellow Matt Mayer has documented, the results have gotten worse, not better.
Read more...Did you know that 13 countries have offered help, but the Obama Administration is not accepting any of it. You'll read all about it in the Morning Bell article, so please take a few minutes to find out just how interested Obama is in cleaning up this mess.
UPDATE 6/14:
Obama finally decides to accept some foreign help:
UPDATE 6/11:
Apparently there is an American company called, Packgen, who has miles of boom and can produce thousands more to help contain the oil. They notified the government and BP over 4 weeks ago:

The War Planner Blog featured 2 very interesting videos that showcase the time line of Obama's response to the oil spill. Watch them and get more ticked off:
Have no fears...Obama will be stopping by Louisiana on the way to his latest vacation today or tomorrow, or maybe next week..
ReplyDeleteMal:
ReplyDeleteHe should spend his vacation on the Louisiana beaches cleaning up oil.
Maybe we could cover him in oil, ignore him for 55 days, and see how he likes it?
ReplyDeleteThe President sure does have his priorities all screwed up.
That seems to be the case. Obama has dithered, and the more I can see of it, the more intentional it seems.
ReplyDeleteI think this oil spill and the response, will be a big part of the 2012 campaign.
ReplyDeleteTeresa:
ReplyDeleteYour comment made me think of the lady from Louisiana who was on Hannity last night. She basically wanted to do the same thing with the CEO of BP. She wanted to cover him in oil and feathers, then sink him in the Gulf.
As for Obama, his priority has always been HIM.
Trestin:
ReplyDeleteIt should be, but you never know how Obama's machine will spin this in the end. They're already trying to cleanse him of any blame. We must remember EVERYTHING.
Matt:
ReplyDeleteObama has "dithering" down to an art. The worse this oil spill gets, the better it is for Obama's agenda of Cap & Tax...at least that's what he thinks.
BO: "Mirror, mirror on the wall, whose ass should I kick most of all?"
ReplyDeleteMirror: "Why, BO, it's your own ass you should kick most of all."
Zero's made a mess of everything he touches, yet he actually has the audacity to think his crap smells like flowers. The man is a disaster unto itself.
ReplyDeleteBO's Oil Spill:
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and spewing in on this post. You of all oil spills knows how BO is screwing you and your recovery all up.
I think in the end, you are going to be kicking Obama's a$$ because his response to your catastrophe is sending his ratings into the toilet.
Snarky:
ReplyDeleteAnd with any luck, Obama will destroy himself with his "audacity".
There are experts all over the world watching this. Just as Obama changed his own experts' recommendations, as you noted TCL, one of them a Berkley Prof "of all places," - spoke out. Obama is going to be creamed for his dishonesty in handling the spill.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that "catastrophe" report that BP had to submit to the Govt. before they ever began drilling was so far out of date, quoted dead people and concluded exactly no remedies for such a disaster, was approved by our Govt. I can't confirm that - just heard a discussion TV.
When the spill was first announced, I can see the fist pumps in Rahm's office - just what they needed to squelch drilling.
Maggie:
ReplyDeleteIs that the report that talked about seals and walruses? Obviously not related to the Gulf of Mexico!
I wonder if we will ever know what really happened because the MSM are lap dogs for Obama.
And the oil spill is exactly what the Obama Administration needed to push their cap & tax plan. It's also a chance for them to shut down drilling and make their environmentalists who funded them, and put them in the WH, very happy.
TCL - that's the one. I remember now, it mentioned sea lions and there are none in the Gulf.
ReplyDeleteYes, since Soros heavily funded him, now Brazil wants our idle oil rigs - flashback: Obama approves $2Billion dollar loan guarantee for Soros' Petrobras.
Apparently, this could keep the U.S. void of deep water rigs for years.
Maggie:
ReplyDeleteI must admit, I didn't remember the Soros/Brazilian thing, so I googled it. Here's the Michelle Malkin report on it:
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/08/19/obama-soros-petrobras-brazil-offshore-drilling-double-standards/
If Obama's 6 month moratorium on deep water oil rigs takes place, we know it will be for much longer than 6 months. These oil rigs will be sent elsewhere so that they can make money. This is common sense...and exactly what the Obama Admin hopes happens. Why not Brazil???
