Turncoats Beware

Yahoo.com reports that Democrat turned Republican turned Democrat Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) lost the Democrat primary to Rep Joe Sestak (D-PA):

PHILADELPHIA – U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter on Tuesday lost a Democratic primary in his bid for a sixth term after taking the risky step of switching from the GOP.
Voters picked U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak as the party's nominee and rejected the 80-year-old Specter in his first Democratic campaign since his Republican Party defection.

And according to RasmussenReports.com ,  Gov. Charlie Crist (I-FL), Republican turned Independent, has lost his lead over Marco Rubio in the race for US Senate:

Charlie Crist received a bounce in the polls when he left the Republican Party to run for the U.S. Senate as an independent. New numbers suggest that the bounce for the governor is over.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in Florida finds Republican Marco Rubio with 39% support, while Crist earns 31% of the vote and Democrat Kendrick Meek trails at 18%. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided.
Two weeks ago, just after Crist announced that he was running as an independent, he held a 38% to 34% advantage over Rubio.
The latest numbers parallel the findings in April two weeks before Crist announced he was quitting the Republican Primary race.

Two turncoats who think that their self-interest is more important than the will of the people.

As a Florida voter, I hope that the Specter loss is a foreshadowing of what is in store for Charlie Crist come November.  Politicians like Arlen Specter and Charlie Crist are only out for their own self interest.  Arlen got what was coming to him and I sincerely hope that Charlie gets the same treatment.

Politicians who think that they can game the system and fool their constituents by changing parties should learn a lesson from Senator Specter's loss today.  The Democrats in Pennsylvania didn't fall for it and neither will the people of Florida when the November elections roll around.

I don't know what will happen in Pennsylvania when Sestak faces the Republican candidate, Pat Toomey, in the Pennsylvania general election for U.S. Senator. According to these polls, Toomey is leading Sestak.  Let's hope that continues to be true.

And as for Florida...my prayers are that Charlie Crist will have what Arlen Specter had today...a rude awakening.

Marco Rubio for U.S. Senate.

  1. Specter doesn't understand the problem. He explained to the dems that, while he always loved them, he had a dalliance with republicans in midlife, and went back to the dems when that didn't work out. And wonder of wonders, he loved them best all along. Why isn't everybody ecstatically happy?

  2. Calling Spectre and Crist 'turn coats' is being awfully kind, Lady. Let's call a spade a spade: they're both garden variety weasels.

  3. Specter is gone the way of old man Bennett. Charlie will be next.

"Nothing like a Democrat scorned...". Specter's dalliance with the Republicans caused a lot of heartburn and when he defected, I was "ecstatically happy" just to rid the Senate of a RINO.
Amazing how the prestige and power can make a person so oblivious to realizing that he should quit while he's ahead. Specter should have retired...instead he goes out as a loser. (Of course, he's been a loser all along except at the polls.)

  5. Hi Fredd:
Very true...weasels they are and I hope Crist goes "pop" in November.

  6. Hi Trestin:
I certainly hope so. It doesn't look like the electorate is in any mood to give the "old guard" another chance to screw things up.

  7. Specter is an opportunist that deserved to be booted from office. Now, the rest of the turncoats beware! I am going to work my hardest to make sure that Pat Toomey kicks some Sestak butt.

  8. Hi Teresa:
My Dad lives in South Philly and we were discussing that maybe Specter would be an easier person to beat in November. But the polls have Toomey beating either he or Sestak, so that's good news. Anything can happen between now and November, so keep up the fight.

  9. I think the major problem is that Crist might split the vote. It's a common story. RINOS always act in their own self interest, NOT in the interest of the party, or their constituents.

That is a very true possibility. The polls show Rubio ahead of both Crist & Meeks, but November is still 5 months away so anything can happen. It will be a very interesting race.
